FISHGUARD

Coastal facilities such as harbors and dams reduce the nursery function of shallow coastal seabed by limiting the micro-habitat shelters essential to the survival of the larvae and post -larvae (the post-larvae are larvae able to swim and leave the waterbody to join the coast).

The destruction of natural habitats is a major cause of larvae and fish post-larvae mortalityby then directly responsible for the fish depletion.

FISHGUARD is one of the answers that harbor managers can offer to reduce this mortality. The mesh in the modules are designed to let the fry, larvae, post-larvae pass through and stop the predators. Furthermore, the development of organisms in these nets allows the establishment of a feeding microcosm for these young recruits.
